Commitment to the Community

Commitment to the Community

Signal 88 Security provides security and patrol services for residential, commercial, and retail customers throughout the nation. Rated the No.1 Security Franchise by Entrepreneur, Signal has a fleet of over 800 security vehicles spanning 200 franchise locations. To maintain its stellar reputation and commitment to protect and serve, the company needed a way to track every aspect of its fleet in real time.

Due to the volume of distributed franchise locations nationwide, the company required a fleet management system that was easy to implement and could be put to use quickly. In the past, some franchises used fleet management software from a range of providers, while others still used manual processes to inspect and maintain their patrol vehicles.

The lack of a preferred, unified system to manage fleet operations at each location made it difficult to know when vehicles were due for service, available to officers, and how much was spent over the vehicle’s lifespan. It also lacked the ability to track GPS locations, monitor driver behavior, and record live feeds with dash cameras. To overcome these challenges, Signal turned to AUTOsist for a fully integrated fleet management software at every location.

“Through educational help and support from AUTOsist and Azuga, it was easy to onboard franchisee accounts and get them set up quickly, so we now have the benefits of Azuga and AUTOsist combined.”

Increasing Safety and Visibility

Increasing Safety and Visibility

A significant challenge facing many fleets is the inability to track vehicles and have insight into their location and trips. Before AUTOsist and Azuga, Signal management had to verify driver locations through phone calls and other forms of communication. As the company expanded, this process had to be digitized in a way that would give both managers and customers the visibility they needed at any given moment.

One unique advantage of Signal Security is the company’s in-house technology platform, “Signal Edge”. Signal Edge is accessible for its customers to view reports and real-time patrol vehicles’ GPS location, assuring its units are on site and patrolling the area. However, offering this tremendous value to customers was not possible until the company deployed AUTOsist and integrated Azuga GPS tracking devices.

“Safety is important, not only for officers but also others. The system allows us to verify routes, job completion, and keep our officers honest and on time. Everything we do is logged electronically so being able to show this to customers is a large selling point for transparency,” said Rozeboom.

Driver accountability was another area of concern Signal needed to address. Having a way to verify driver behavior was necessary to ensure they were operating vehicles safely. With Azuga’s GPS and telematics devices being pulled into AUTOsist, managers could monitor driver analytics for things like speeding, harsh braking, seatbelt usage, and other behaviors that combined to produce a total driver score.

Driver scores, which are on a 1-100 scale, are then ranked on a leaderboard to incentivize drivers to operate vehicles safely to achieve the best possible score. To limit potentially dangerous driving habits, drivers receive instant in-cab alerts when the vehicle violates the threshold for things like acceleration and braking. This has been extremely helpful to pinpoint areas of improvement and guarantee the safety of all parties.

Saving Big on Fleet Costs

Saving Big on Fleet Costs

For any fleet, insurance is a fixed cost necessary to protect the company’s investment in the vehicle and ensure any accident liabilities are also handled accordingly. Insurance premiums have increased significantly over the last few years, inline with and even exceeding inflation rates in some states, over 8 percent.

Signal Security has mitigated both the risks and insurance costs by sourcing Azuga dual-facing dash cameras through AUTOsist’s packaged deal. In the first six months of use, Signal saved $185,000 in insurance claims, realizing a prompt positive return on investment.

These dual-facing cameras provide managers with live camera feeds of both the driver and road view. Having a live feed of drivers gives management peace of mind their officers are not driving distracted or using hand-held devices while operating a patrol vehicle. The camera feeds are also convenient as visual evidence of any wrongdoing or unavoidable accidents that may arise on the job.

“In our nature of work, the biggest concern is our officer safety. Not only does the system allow us to mitigate poor driving habits, it also helps us prove if our vehicle was not the 'at fault' party in an accident.”
